The Super-Physical Breath: Powerful Spiritual Exercise to Increase Your Life Force Energy
The super-physical breath, a powerful spiritual exercise developed by Christian Larson, can boost your vitality and improve your well-being. In my research to cure fatigue, I discovered that one of the best ways to naturally boost your energy is by practicing the spiritual exercises developed by this enlightened author.
Christian Larson was an outstanding and highly influential early New Thought leader and teacher. He believed that people have spiritual inner powers, which could be used for self-healing and success with the proper attitude.
He was a prolific author of metaphysical and New Thought books. His writings influenced many notable New Thought authors, such as the founder of the Religious Science movement Ernest Holmes.
He is well known for writing many inspirational books on self-healing (Your Forces and How to Use Them, The Mind Cure, The Hidden Secret) and for his optimist creed:
“Promise Yourself… To be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind. To talk health, happiness, and prosperity to every person you meet. To make all your friends feel that there is something in them. To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true. To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best. To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own. To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future. To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile. To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others. To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear, and too happy to permit the presence of trouble. To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world, not in loud words, but in great deeds. To live in the faith that the whole world is on your side, so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”
In his book, Healing Yourself, Christian Larson presents several powerful spiritual exercises and writes at length about the vital life-force energy and how to increase it in your mind and body. Note that these exercises also work to cure fatigue because according to the author, no illness can exist or remain in your body as long as the body is supplied with enough vital energy. I am going to present you the short version of the super-physical breath exercise and here is what the author says about the finer energy that exists in the air and the physical atmosphere:
„The physical atmosphere with which we are surrounded, and portions of which we inhale with every breath, is not composed of physical elements alone. And when we breathe, we take into the system something more besides the air that enters the lungs. The fact is, that the physical atmosphere is charged with certain vital forces, or life energies, that are drawn more or less into the physical system when we breathe; and that invariably tend to increase the vital energy of the system. In some localities the atmosphere contains more of this vital force than elsewhere; and we always find that the population of such localities feel stronger, more energetic and more alive, and accomplish a great deal more, both in the physical and the mental fields of activity.”
The short version of the super-physical breath
This is the short version of the exercise – “Whenever you breathe consciously, think deeply of the vital energy of the atmosphere; and as you inhale, desire with a depth of feeling: to draw more and more of this energy into your system with every breath. In ordinary physical breathing, the object is simply to secure oxygen for the lungs; but in super-physical breathing, the object is to secure a greater and greater supply of that finer life energy that permeates the atmosphere everywhere. And as you make a special and conscious effort, in your general breathing, to attract more of this finer energy, you will soon develop the faculty of attracting more of this energy at all times.”
So in other words, for the short version of the exercise, just your strong intention alone and connecting with this finer energy from the air by thinking deeply about it, becoming aware and eventually feeling it as you breathe, can help you to secure a larger portion of this energy.
The long version of the super-physical breath
I present here the longer version of the exercise, but I highly recommend reading Christian Larson’s book ‘Healing Yourself’ for a more comprehensive understanding. This is the longer version of the super-physical breath:
”Be seated in a comfortable position, a position that will permit of a free and easy exercise of the lungs. See that there is an abundance of fresh air in the room. Then begin to breathe, gently and deeply, inhaling and exhaling slowly, holding the breath a few seconds after each inhalation, and being particular to note that the lungs are filled comfortably, through and through, with each succeeding inhalation. Continue this mode of breathing for ten or fifteen minutes, and as you do so turn your attention upon the finer life currents of the atmosphere. Try to get into conscious touch with the finer forces these currents, and try to draw a goodly supply of those forces into your system with every inhalation. In this connection, it is most important to realize that the finer forces of the atmosphere that surround you will obey the desires of your mind. Therefore, if you place your mind and thought in touch with those forces, and deeply desire to draw them into your system as you inhale, those forces will actually obey; and you will receive a far greater supply of life energy from the atmosphere than usual.”
The author then goes on to explain additional steps for increasing life-force energy while holding your breath:
“During this special exercise, try to draw an extra supply of atmospheric energy into your system with every inhalation; then as you hold your breath for a few seconds, try to feel that this finer energy is penetrating every fiber in your being, giving new life and vitality to every nerve and cell; and as you exhale, try to feel that all the extra energy received is retained in the system, as a permanent addition to your physical and mental power.”
Summary of the spiritual exercise
So, let’s recapitulate the main ideas of this exercise:
You sit in a comfortable position in a room or a beautiful and energizing place where there is fresh air. Then you start breathing and inhaling slowly while consciously aware of the air you breathe. Eventually, you might also become aware of the finer energy in that air.
After mindfully inhaling, you hold your breath for a few seconds. During those seconds, you try to feel the finer energy of the air inside your lungs now, and if you can feel that energy, you try to direct it consciously to other parts of your body.
You can do this by simply becoming aware that your body is more energized inside now from that finer life-force energy when you are holding your breath. You simply use your intention and willpower to move that energy elsewhere in your body rather than just keep it in the area of your lungs.
Then, as you slowly exhale, you try to feel that energy retained in your body. Conclusion and some final words
Does that make sense? I think it’s best and crucial to write down this whole exercise or at least my recapitulation of the exercise in a notebook. You also need to practice it or read the book to understand everything more.
Warning! There are wrong spiritual breathing exercises in many places on the internet, which can do real harm to your mind and body. Be careful what you practice especially if it’s related to kundalini yoga breathing or other potentially harmful ways of breathing, which can do much harm to the untrained mind and body of the average person. There are also many other wrong and incorrect breathing practices on the internet. So be cautious.
This spiritual breathing exercise I have shared here is safe and is from a respected and trustworthy author. But it should not be done for more than 10 minutes and 2 times per day. It’s very powerful and I have gained undreamed levels of energy after doing this exercise. I have found out that this exercise is best practiced in nature (like a forest or somewhere in the mountains), where there is more life-force energy. May it help you too, in your journey to cure your fatigue.
